To pump or not to pump

My darling daughter has a history of milk allergy so she still drinks breastmilk at 20 months. If I want to work undisturbed or leave the house for more than five hours, I need to have at least two 4 ozs of milk ready for her. Hence the need for constant pumping and storing of breastmilk everyday. However, as much as I want to give her pure breastmilk, I find pumping very stressful especially now that she’s older. My milk supply is about to run dry that I can only express milk while she’s feeding on the other side. There are times when she wants to do the pumping but most of the times, she freaks out when she sees it near my breast. I’ve also started hating the sight of my pump because of the pressure (to store) and the need to come up with several excuses for Sandy why we need to do it.

I’ve been planning to give her formula ever since she turned 15 months but I’m still unsure if her milk allergy is really gone. After a couple of unsuccessful attempts to pump yesterday, I’ve decided to not to do it anymore. I want to be free of my pump. I’m sick of worrying whether I have enough milk stored for the week or if it will keep frozen after a 2-hour power interruption. I just want to lie down, relax and think of nothing while Sandy’s nursing.

I’m having second thoughts though, now that I’ve finished writing about it. Will she be able to take formula when I’m away?

Lights out

We had a power interruption last night, which lasted for almost three hours. Good thing the weather was a bit colder than usual so Sandy just played in the dark. When the lights went out, we didn’t have any emergency lights that we can turn on right away so we used our cellphones to find some. I’m amazed how Sandy can move quickly in the dark and still manage to get some toys when I myself struggle to go from one place to another. She’s not afraid of the dark and just kept on singing and dancing the whole time.

The sound of thunder brought back memories of our milenyo days when we had to stay in a hotel for five days! We had no power, no water and the phone lines were dead. That was one stressful week and I pray to God that we don’t ever experience that again.

0% credit cards

My cousin from UK is a certified shopaholic and I’ve always wondered how she manages to save when all she can talk about is her latest shopping spree. She said she always use her trusty MINT credit cards which is a 0% interest credit card. I checked their site and learned that all items that you purchase using this card has a fixed 0% interest until January 2008! You can avail of the free interest period if you pay your balance in full in a maximum of 56 days compared to the usual 30-day period. They are offering several of 0% promos from purchases to balance transfers and they have recently lowered their APR to 14.9%. No wonder why my cousin can afford those wonderful suits and leather boots when the credit limit is up to £ 7,500. I hope she brings with her a couple of hand-me-downs when she visits next year.

That’s it! Your turn!!

On clear skin

We went out to buy some groceries this morning with Sandy. Since the store is just 15 minutes away, I just washed my face and didn’t use any concealers, etc. When I checked my face in the car’s rearview mirror, I was so shocked to see how I looked. It’s the same face but the skin has gotten so bad that it made me cringe literally. Sandy laughed when she saw what I’m doing. If there’s a contest for bad skin, I would probably win hands down. I have it all; blackheads, whiteheads, white and black spots, dry skin and small bumps that I don’t even know what to call.

Is this what my husband sees when he comes home everyday? Que horror! I make sure to look in the mirror everyday but the light on our bathroom is not that great compared to natural light that it probably masks the bad stuff a bit. I need to start taking care of myself, seriously.

Be Seen at Masterseek

I came across Masterseek while looking for search engines where I can submit our company web site. They are the world’s largest B2B search engine and have over 45 million companies in their database. Their main goal is to establish a strong connection between buyers and suppliers worldwide. Companies who are looking for potential clients, business partners and even suppliers will benefit from their extensive list of company profiles, contact information and service/product descriptions. Businesses who want to increase their sales can also submit their website to Masterseek or advertise using MasterAds.

Talkies

Sandy knows the complete lyrics to twinkle twinkle little star and she sings them all the time. Even if we taught her that song word for word because she usually jumps from one stanza to another, I still can’t get over the fact that she can sing an entire song now. She’s also gotten so talkative that we need to be careful on what we say in front of her. She copies it all and repeats it a couple of times as if memorizing the words. She even said “arte mo!” to her Papa after hearing me say it a couple of times. She usually repeats the words where she gets more reaction so we just try to ignore it if she says something bad.

It rained this afternoon and she kept on saying “Raining, raining!’. Then she pulled her Ate Arlyn’s hand so they can go outside. She was babbling nonstop on their way to the door and when I leaned closer, I found out that she wasn’t babbling. She was singing “rain rain, go away. come again another day, little sandy wants to play” over and over. I was shocked because I don’t remember practicing that song with her. We just sing it to her from time to time and now she can sing it without any problems at all.

Life and beyond

Sherwin has always been the one stressing out the importance of life insurance. Losing his father at an early age, Sherwin saw how his father’s death insurance took care of the hospital bills and other expenses. That’s why when we got married; he would not stop explaining why we need to get one. He was so bent on acquiring our own life insurance while we’re still young because the rates are much lower. By the way, we were still childless then so I don’t see why I should invest on something that I won’t benefit from while I’m alive. Now that we have Sandy, I’m glad that I gave in to Sherwin’s nagging. In fact, I want to buy three more just in case one of them goes bankrupt. It’s all about Sandy’s future now.

How do they do it?

I’ve always been amazed at how celebrities can lose weight quickly. It doesn’t seem fair to see celebrity moms go out in the red carpet looking very sexy even if they just gave birth two months ago. It’s so easy for them to lose weight, given their access to personal trainers and personal chefs whose main jobs are to keep them healthy and fit. I’ve also read that some of them are taking Ephedra which has been reported to be very dangerous and can cause heart stroke. Even Oprah who works out twice a day, seven days a week, was taking MetaboSpeed to speed up her metabolism. I guess that’s their version of “working hard” so as not to lose their jobs. It’s a mean world out there!

We have a job opening!

My company is looking for a Product Support Engineer. We are a virtual company which means you get to work from home, with a minimum of 35 working hours a week.

If you’re working as a Tier II Support or something similar, please send me your resumes or email me at joy-at-webapplica.com to get more details.
