Keep on Truckin’

Ever hear “Love and Marriage” by Frank Sinatra? It was the theme song for the show “Married With Children” from years ago. It’s opening lines went:

“Love and marriage, Love and marriage, Go together like a horse and carriage”

I think it’s the same for men and trucks. What is it about trucks (or, as it is more fashionable to say nowadays, SUVs)? Is it some evolutionary link to when men were still trying to domesticate cattle?

I got to thinking about it when my husband and I ran into one of his classmates from highschool last week. His buddy had been shopping for truck accessories, apparently for his (increase volume) Ford Expedition (back to normal volume), and was all too eager to fill us in on what he had bought. I had a crash course on Nerf Bars, Grab Handles, Headlight covers, and skid plates.

Looking back it was as if buying all those truck accessories, to him, was like buying diapers for one’s firstborn. It was that special. Good for him, I guess.

Horse and carriage, indeed.
