Little Memeyd

That’s how Sandy pronounces her favorite Disney movie. The Little Mermaid is Harry Potter’s replacement. We play this movie whenever we need to distract her so I can leave the room (why do I always have to leave?) or convince her to eat or sit still for about 10 minutes.

She loves the theme song and sings it like this -

Sandy: Look at this stop. Isinitnit. Wudeyabin collections complete. Wudaya am da gel, everything.
(Look at this stuff, isn’t it neat? Wouldn’t you think my collections complete? Wouldn’t you think I’m the girl, the girl who has everything)

She also narrates the scenes to me as if I’m not watching.

“Mommy! Look! Little memeyd is sad.”

“Little memeyd is happy. Not sad anymore”

“The dog is dancing with Papa (Prince Eric)” (King Triton is also her Papa)

“She’s going to sing!”

“The boat mommy! Isss going to rain. Tander! Layting!” (thunder! lightning!) (scene where the boat is about to sink)

Little Mermaid is also one of my favorite movies, next to Aladdin of course. Which is why I’m glad to see that Sandy likes it as well. When she gets older, perhaps we can watch “The Little Mermaid” play.

Welcome to Harlem

In the first quarter of 2006, a group of native “Harlemites” (Harlem, New York, USA) opened Welcome To Harlem primarily as a resource list/directory where people could look for businesses, services, etc.; and business owners could reach their clientele—particularly tourists. They’ve now expanded and have begun offering Harlem Tours to guests of the area. Welcome To Harlem has the distinct advantage of being from Harlem, and hence having first-hand knowledge of the area. This gives visitors a close look at Harlem’s unique sounds, sights, and flavors. The tours offered include a wide range of activities: from a walk around the neighborhood to a jazz and soul food tour. “Custom” tours are also available.

Pussy Cat Pussy Cat

Sandy and I were lying down face to face this morning. I can feel myself smile as I watch her face and note how peaceful she looks when she’s asleep. All of a sudden, she opened her eyes and without blinking or even stretching, she said,

where’s mommy eating bread and honey?

I thought she was dreaming but her eyes were wide open. She must have seen my face because she laughed and repeated the words.

She was actually referring to the page in her little book called “Pussy Cat, Pussy Cat”. There’s a page there with a drawing of a queen eating bread and honey and she calls the queen mommy. She knows all the words from that book and I didn’t know that she knows until one afternoon when I asked her:

Scene: Sandy entering the room alone

ME: Hey, where have you been?
Sandy: I’ve been to London, to visit the queen.

I didn’t know what to say, really. I tried to think of a reply but I can’t because I’m not sure exactly what she was trying to say. Then I remember the words from her book, “pussy cat, pussy cat, where have you been? I’ve been to london to visit the queen”. It was hilarious! I just can’t stop laughing. My daughter never ceases to amaze me.

Definitely smarter than I thought.

5 Best Nights of My Life

Tagged by Jane, Amore and JennyR

Rule: Name five of the Best Nights of your Life and then tag four people.

Mine would have to be:

1. September 17, 2005: The night before I gave birth to Sandy. I gave birth the natural way and it was the sweetest feeling in the world. To feel the pain of your unborn child pushing, struggling to get out. Sherwin was there to cheer me and I’ve never seen him so happy when we heard Sandy’s first cry.

2. Bush concert, 1996. Definitely one of the best nights of my life. A shirtless Gavin Rossdale. My right hand on his sweaty waist. Didn’t wash for a week.

3. September 11, 2002. My husband who was just “a friend” back then sent me an IM message (you look bored :) ) which started everything.

4. November 16, 2003. The night after the wedding reception. I was alone in the hotel, waiting for my husband. I looked in the mirror and can’t be happier knowing that I’m married to the most complicated and amazing man.

5. All date nights with the Husband.

I’m tagging Kathy, Kat, Eli, Toni

Wake up with your makeup

Many women feel naked going out with their makeup on. I know I do. I spend about 20-30 minutes putting eyeliner and lipstick and that’s just the easy part. I bet many businesswomen would love to save that amount of time everyday without worrying about their makeup. MPI Clinic, San Diego’s finest permanent makeup clinic, is revolutionizing the cosmetics industry by providing sanitary and professional permanent makeup. MPI’s Permanent eye makeup can give you the softest, natural FeatherStroke Brows by hand-drawing a pattern for the eyebrows, specific to each individual. This process required a lot of time to ensure client satisfaction. They also have lash enhancement where they apply color on the lash line in between the lashes and permanent eyeliner for the upper and lower lid. You can forget about re-applying lipstick everyday because their lipliner can give your lips a subtle or vibrant color, which can last for 3-5 years. All procedures are performed by Laura Rappaports, a licensed makeup artist and registered nurse. MPI Clinic strives to provide high quality, safe and satisfaction guaranteed procedures, which is why physicians and dermatologists refer their clients with confidence.

Still unlucky

I feel a bit frustrated. I clicked two available opps today; one worth $50 and the other one $500 only to find out that they have been taken. The PPP opportunity page loads very fast on my end but whenever I click on the big opps, the blue section on the status bar loads slowly, as if mocking me. Sigh, will I ever get lucky? My fingers seem to have a life of their own whenever I type the captcha words. I kept on entering the wrong letters mainly because of excitement and nervousness. LOL. I wonder what I will buy for $500? I’ll probably spent all of it buying home furniture or have an unplanned vacation with the Husband and little girl.

A Beach Holiday

Sherwin and I are both beach lovers. We’re not afraid of the sun. In fact, you can consider us sun-worshippers. The perfect getaway for us is this - lying down in a hammock or a beach chair, reading a book, and drinking a tropical shake while watching the waters hit the shore. We even invented our own beach holidays which is every September; Sandy’s birthday and November; our wedding anniversary. We make sure to spend three to four days in an island no matter how busy we are. It’s our way to de-stress and forget about our problems.

We have gotten very good in scouting for cheap flights and holiday offers to satisfy our beach addiction. One site that makes me come back for more is dialaflight.com. They have so many destinations to choose from - Bahamas, Bali, Barbados and those were just under the letter B. If things work out and I earn enough money from my sidelines, I’m thinking of booking a 7-night beach holiday at Fiji. It has been one of my dream destinations ever since. I hope that I can step in the sands of Soft Coral Capital of the World soon. And if we get lucky, we might get a room from the Westin Resorts & Spa. Talk about high-end accommodation!

Photos from last weekend

Sharing some photos as promised.

It’s good to see Sandy interacting with other kids. When she saw the little girls aged 4-6 years old preparing “lunch”, she immediately joined them and sat down to eat. It’s so much fun to be a kid no? You don’t need to be invited or to be in just to have fun.

The Long Weekend

Yes, this post is long.

If you think that I had enough rest with the long weekend and all, you’re wrong. We spent the last three days outside, spending way too much on food and toys and other stuff that money can definitely buy. We initially planned on spending one to two nights in Tagaytay but decided to just do it next month, probably on Sandy’s birthday / week.

So Saturday. Sandy kept on saying “Let’s go to Mall of Asian” in a whiny voice for the last two days. I haven’t been there so we decided to go. However, I remembered Jane’s post about how crowded it is in MOA on weekends so I had second thoughts. We fetched Sandy’s Ninong Zer, she calls him “Ninong Yes sir” (probably from the ba ba black sheep song) and since he leaves near Ortigas, we decided to go to Trinoma instead. I didn’t like the location but I love the mall, the shops and restaurants. It’s definitely a place for shopping and I can browse through the shops all day IF Sandy’s not with me. The mall has lots of fountains so of course; there were lots of photo opps. Will post them later today.

I love how Sandy tells me what she wants. When she saw Gymboree, she ran so fast while shouting “Mommy want to play there? Mommy want to play there? Mommy want to play there?”. I tried to distract her by showing her toys in the store beside Gymboree but she kept on pulling my hand. So how can you say no right? We signed up for one hour then Sherwin saw his college friend and little boy. They laughed about their new “hang out” while Sandy and I played inside. Sandy loved it so much that we’re thinking of signing her up for a class. We then had merienda at Mary Grace and tried their famous roasted ensaymada’s and hot choco. Sandy experienced her first carousel ride as well.

Sunday: We went to my parents’ house in Sampaloc but Sandy wanted to ride a carousel again so we went to SM San Lazaro with my niece Gabby. She was very tired but still kept on running around Storyland. I’m having heart attacks every 10 minutes that my brother told me to just let her be. So I tried, she fell down twice, didn’t cry, thank God and still kept on running. I’ve started to feel light-headed after “riding all we can” at Storyland so I thought to rest for a bit. We had merienda at Yellow Cab and then went to another playhouse so Sandy and Gabby can play AGAIN. They just don’t rest at all. Before they went in, I asked Gabby to protect her cousin and she said yes. Sandy was riding a car when some kid decided to get it from her but instead of giving in liked she used to, she sat in the car unmoving, looking at the boy with her poker face (I think she’s trying to intimidate him lol). And when Gabby saw them, she went to her cousin to “block” the kid from “borrowing” the car. I just love seeing them like that.

To cut the story short, the weekend made us very tired, poorer than ever but seeing the little girl very happy is all worth it.

This and That

It’s so hard to get up this morning. Been trying to wake myself up since 4AM but the bed doesn’t seem to want to let me go. Good thing I don’t have much stuff to do at work so I can just relax and take it easy today.

The husband put up a shelf on my workspace and re-wired everything yesterday. It took him two hours just to clean up my desk but it’s all worth it. The setup is flawless. My old DELL laptop is now the server and my HP the main machine. He also set up my 17″ LCD so I can use it on my laptop. It feels so good to work on a huge monitor again that I think I might scrap something today hmmmmm :) Ive been a bit frustrated when I found out that I can’t upgrade my laptop’s graphics card but I could see on my LCD monitor that the colors are not that bad. So it’s all good. I think I almost have my dream workspace except for the slim portable storage and printed digiscraps that I can put on the wall.

That’s it for now. Have a great morning people. I’ll be back later for my weekend recap.

Shopping at Tobi

Since I’ve been a mom, I haven’t been able to window shop as I used to. That’s why online shopping has been a lifesaver for me. Online catalogs have been the next best thing. I can browse through different apparels and brands without ever leaving the house. I like how online sites have a virtual closet so you can mix and match clothes.

My recent online discovery is Tobi.com. If you’re looking for a high value shopping experience, this is the place to go. They carry several brands from Chloé to Denimbirds to velvet apparel, which I really liked. The simplicity and the colors of velvet clothing are just right for me. Their selection of long shirts, which I’m crazy for at the moment to hide my post-pregnancy tummy, looks really comfortable and stylish.

I’ve been wearing blouses that either have low necklines or buttons to make breastfeeding easy. This baby doll top could serve as a breastfeeding top as well. It has the usual ribbed empire waist, which looks good in my slim fit jeans or black leggings.

There’s just so much to choose from. I’ll probably have to convince my friend from the US to get me a couple of velvet clothes when she visits this Christmas.

A Quick Hi

.. to everyone who’s reading my blog. I’m very very busy with all the paid opps and design projects at work. Plus, I still have no yaya so I need to sleep very late or wake up really early (read: 4-5AM) to get something done. I don’t mind the sleepless nights at all. I guess as a mother, you get used to these things. I work best anyway when I know that the little one is sleeping soundly.

Hope you all have a nice night! Enjoy the long weekend.

Brunchers

Hello online friends! How are you today? My day started just right - a nice cup of coffee, warm grilled cheese sandwich and an hour all by myself. The little one just woke up so I had enough time to read all my emails in peace. She has been sleeping through the night for the past 3 days, thank God. You would think that I’m catching on my sleep as well but no, with my new phone and its amazing wi-fi connectivity, I’ve been waking up every hour the whole night just to check opps. Sadly, most of them are gray by the time I get to the site. And this morning while chatting with the husband, I saw an opportunity worth $50 about wedding bands. I clicked on it as fast as I could, entered the captcha codes only to receive the message that it’s no longer available. I almost kicked myself because I’ve gotten so busy chatting that I forgot to check the page.

The husband and I have a big decision to make this week. No, I will not tell you LOL. I just hope that we can find the right answer soon.

Do what you love. Money will come after

A friend of mine has been making a living by making and selling fashion jewelry. I used to think of her as lazy (which I don’t fail to tell her because she’s my friend!) and that she’s wasting those five years we spent learning everything it is about computers. Turned out that the IT world was not for her. She has always been the more fashionable one amongst our group with all her chunky earrings and out-of-this-world necklaces. She has been making at least $300 a month with her jewelries, which isn’t bad for someone who just stays at home. It really helps that you love what you do.
