Last Week’s Ordeal

  • Sandy was having projectile vomiting last Monday afternoon so I took her to Makati Med to find out what’s wrong. They discharged her five hours after with orders to make her drink pedialite
She hasn’t been taking anything for the last five hours so I thought it’s okay to give her a small sip of my iced tea. She threw them up as well.
  • At home, she wasn’t able to take pedialite or any food. Kept on throwing everything up so we decided to bring her to UST where her pedia, also The Husband’s auntie, holds her clinic.
  • We were admitted around 12:30 am and had an IV inserted on my poor little girl. She didn’t cry a lot, perhaps because she was too dehydrated and just didn’t have the strength to fight us.
  • We spent four days after that, monitoring Sandy’s food intake, vomit and poop. It was tiring, stressful and the bed that Sandy and I shared was so high I feel like falling every five minutes.
  • We went home last Friday afternoon. Sandy lost a lot of weight but perfectly okay as I write this.

Things I’m thankful for:

  • Just like what Aggie loves to say, “buti na lang may maxicare”. In our case, it’s Asian Life but you get the picture
  • For big rooms. If we didn’t choose the biggest room, we’d probably have gone crazy trying to “live” in a small space
  • My good kid. Although stubborn, Sandy knew it wasn’t the right time to argue with her parents. She didn’t try to remove her IV, never played with it, and tried her best not to move her “sleeping hand”. She requested twice to have it removed but accepted later on it just won’t happen.
  • Mcdo and KFC
  • Good, dependable yaya. Ate Arlene just made everything easier for us. She’s smart and knows what to do. She also went back and forth from UST to Paranaque to get clothes / stuff and even washed Sandy’s soiled clothes.
  • Family. My mom, brother and Sandy’s cousin Gabby visited. It lifted up Sandy’s spirits and even if she was complaining of pain on her arm, she got all bright and bushy tailed upon seeing her visitors. Sherwin’s mom tried to visit but unfortunately got stuck in an explosion near UST and had to go back home.
  • Understanding clients and bosses. A lot of them said prayers and kept on texting if Sandy’s okay
  • Last but not the least, breastfeeding. I don’t know what I would do without it. Everything is just so much easier, from comforting Sandy to putting her to sleep to making her pain go away.

    Hi Joy,

Glad to hear she’s ok now … Btw, no rush naman yun assistance :) take care of sandy muna… I am sure she’s so clingy and fragile after her ordeal. Need all her strength back :)

Really good and brave girl with her IV ha. Naku si sam before, we wrapped it with diaper so she won’t touch or remove the IV. Haayy..hirap talaga if babies got the sickies! Mommy na lang… :)

Hi Joy! Thank God, Sandy’s ok na. I understand how you felt during the whole ordeal. Zoe had the same case last year and ganon din, she vomited everything. Acute gastroenteritis daw. The vomiting was followed by diarrhea. And you’re right, thank God for breastfeeding. Sobrang helpful sya. God bless!

  21. peachy on January 28th, 2008

glad to know that sandy’s okay. experienced the same thing since joaqui waas hospitalized twice. true, salamat sa mga health cards diba? we spent more on food at UST, sarap kumain grabe! sino nga ulit pedia nya jan? ang hirap kumuha ng nice room sa ust diba? at most times, fully booked sila.

im sure makakabawi yan now.. pahinga ka muna din, stressfula ng hospital life.

  24. Litzie on January 28th, 2008

This is why I kept on asking myself “bakit kaya di pa nag-a-update si Dzoi?”…

I hope Sandy’s well now and gaining her weight back… Take care!

  25. Joey on January 28th, 2008

Things are really much more difficult if our kids are sick. On the positive side naman, isipin mo nalang na one more illness builds more immunity for her. Wala naman kasi talagang gamot pag viral, supportive therapy lang. At least payag si Sandy sa IV, otherwise, she can’t keep her fluids down.

    Hope she’s much better na.

  26. dzoi on January 28th, 2008

hi peachy, dra. castro kami, tita ni sherwin un. kayo sino pedia nyo? grabe alam mo ba 1500++ a day, bale 3 meals nagagastos namin sa fast food bwahaha. ginugutom ang mga bantay lol

  27. dzoi on January 28th, 2008

hi mich, thanks! mahirap talaga painumin ang toddlers kasi eh. naku pag si alex yan, pilitn mo talaga kesa lagyan ng IV

  28. dzoi on January 28th, 2008

    thanks kelly :)

  29. dzoi on January 28th, 2008

  30. dzoi on January 28th, 2008

Hi Joey, I’ve never thought of it that way so thanks. I’ll make sure to remember that next time. Naku wala na sana next time no.

  31. N!cE on January 28th, 2008

Oh! ayaw talaga ng kids ng pedialyte. Kahit si Andre di ko mapainom what we did is drop it little by little through a syringe.

Buti naman ok na sha. Ano daw yung cause ng vomiting?

    Hugs to Sandy!!!! :D
