The Mom Song

Apols sent this url via Twitter and I just can’t help but share it to all the moms out there. This is just so true. When I was a kid, I promised I wouldn’t talk like this to my child but here I am, already halfway there :D

Online Education

I’ve heard plenty of reasons why some of my friends couldn’t finish school. It’s either they are too busy with their careers, taking care of the household or just don’t have the patience to go to school everyday. But with the advancement of technology nowadays, there’s no reason why you can’t pursue higher learning anymore. Even if you have obligations at work, family or business, you can get an online university degree for programs from universities like Capella. This online university currently offers graduate degree programs such as information technology, public safety, business, psychology, education, human services and many more. So far, they have been serving over 23,400 students online from 50 states and 45 countries. Usually, I would think that everyone should go to school the traditional. However, I applaud this online education system for making it easy for people to expand their horizons and reach their dreams. Like I said, I have friends who will be more than happy to learn that they still have a chance to have a degree after all.

A Quick Post

We’ll be attending tons of parties this coming weekend. Good thing I remembered or else I’d be spending the whole Saturday and Sunday working again. I know I should be taking it easy but we’re still in the middle of launching a big website. And on top of that, I accepted side projects again because let’s face it, who would say no to extra money right? Just a few sleepless nights and you’re a couple of hundred dollars richer. I’m gonna make sure that they will all go to our savings account, not online shopping. I’m so itching to buy something for Sandy but I’m really doing my best not to. We need to save, not just for the rainy days but for the big purchase that we’re about to make. Hopefully.

Lugging Around

Summer is just around the corner and it usually translates to out of town trips. In fact, as early as now, we’ve already booked two trips, nothing major or expensive but will still require us to bring half our room to keep Sandy from getting bored. We have this huge luggage for overnights and two big bags for her toys everytime we spend a night or two somewhere. Most of the time, I miss having a chic luggage. I used to have something similar to this red Rimowa trolley when I was single but this won’t do at all anymore. Maybe when Sandy’s older, the two of us can go on a trip and we’d both carry sleek luggages, wear huge sunglasses, platform shoes and super mini-dresses. ;)

Designing Around the TV Set

I want a tv stand like this.

Plus the LCD TV too, of course. What’s so cool about this stand is that it has infrared capability that distributes remote control commands to your AV equipments. This means you don’t have to open the drawers to open your DVD player or PS2. They will be safely out of sight, leaving a clean and sophisticated look for your living room. I saw one that hides the TV set by slowly lowering it down the console. It’s a bit more expensive than this one but perfect if you don’t want to ruin your interior design with electronic equipments.

WW – Aquadoodler

She discovered the fun of splattering water on the mat.

To those who are asking, this mat is called Aquadoodle. It’s basically a drawing mat except when the ink dries out, the drawings disappear as well. A special pen that can be filled with water comes with it. I like it because it’s not messy and it comes in different sizes so you can bring it anywhere. The pen works on the mat only so you don’t have to worry about your kids writing on the wall or on the bedsheets.

Beach Vacations with the Family

image When we go on vacation with the little one, we always prepare ourselves for tiny meltdowns. If your expectations are low, you won’t get disappointed that things are not going your way. This is also why we always choose Family Friendly Resorts so we can have a moment’s peace from time to time. I know even if I wish that The Husband and I can go on our own, I can’t really imagine going on a nice vacation without Sandy. It wouldn’t seem fair that we’re enjoying while she’s at home getting bored. It reminds me of this resort called Azul Sensatori at the Riviera Maya, Mexico. The amenities are definitely top quality and the dining choices are exceptional. There are low-carb menus, lobster-only menus, South Beach diet and other special menu that you don’t usually find in a family friendly resort. And for the pampered parents, they offer cribs, strollers, beach games, bottle heaters, coloring books and many more to ensure that you enjoy the vacation you’ve been saving up for.

I’m on Vacation!

In my dreams. I wish I could say that I’m out of town, vacationing somewhere hot and sunny that’s why I’m not blogging. But the truth is I’m very busy at work. We are about to launch this huge website and I’m doing what I can to help the team. With the recent recession, there are only a few of us left which  means they need all hands on deck.

As for the little girl, she has been sleeping without me for two nights. We turn off the lights at 10:20PM and then she and her Papa will talk and tell stories while I type away on the other side of the room. I think she’s getting used to the light on my laptop that it doesn’t bother her anymore. I am pretty relieved about this because now I can work even if it’s already her bedtime. Not that I’m planning to make this a habit. In fact last night, although she slept before 11PM, I realized my mind is not working anymore so there’s no use in staying up late when I can’t do anything productive. I turned off my computer a few minutes after 11 and decided to sleep. And what a long, peaceful I had! I had to rouse myself at 7AM because I know there’d be tons of emails waiting for me.

Healthy Snacks for Kids

Every morning just before Sandy goes to school, I always ask what she wants for snack. The answers vary from, “I don’t know”, “not that I don’t like that” (in reply to my suggestions), “bread pan” and lastly, “how about chips”? I’m worried that she gets hungry in school, although she only spends one and a half hour there. I tried feeding her fried rice and bacon/hotdogs/eggs before she goes to school but she wakes up late lately that we have no time for it anymore. Which explains why I worry about her being hungry while “studying”.

Here’s what I’ve researched so far from this site.

  • Snack size yoghurts, milk puddings and fruit cups….don’t forget a spoon
  • Milk and milk shakes in a drinking box….keep some cold and ready to go
  • Any fruit …grapes, orange wedges, cantaloupe slices, canned pineapple spears or chunks
  • Vegetable sticks mixed with chunks of cheese
  • Celery sticks filled with soft cheese or peanut butter; add a few crackers
  • Crackers…bag them yourself or buy small portion packs
  • Cheese
  • Peanut butter and crackers
  • Snack pack cheese and crackers or peanut butter and crackers
  • Handful of wholegrain cereal……add a few grapes or small chunks of cheese
  • Whole grain muffin
  • Sandwich with a few slices of fruit
  • Cold pizza slices
  • Half bagel with cheese or peanut butter
  • Popcorn or nuts for older children

On other kids, you can trick them by putting it in a cute container but it will never work on Sandy. Still, I’m hoping she’d try these. Maybe if I eat them myself, she would.
