Happy Friday!
My Portfolio
I’m in the process of compiling all website designs that I’ve made for the last seven years. I know there are more than 50 sites already but was surprised to see that I can only pick 25 that I can really be proud of. It’s nice to see my earliest mockups, though. There are a couple for real estate, dance clubs, industrial supplies and several corporate bios. I’m thinking of re-selling them to this website similar to junk shops offering cheap dollar for old and discarded web mockups. With over 100 at my disposal, I could have more or less $100-$200.
Wordless Wednesday – A Kiss
Weekend Round Up / Dentist Visit / MBAP Party
What a tiring weekend!
Saturday morning was spent at the Dentist in Makati Med. Our experience wasn’t very good. The night before that, Sandy and I practiced sitting on the dentist chair, opening her mouth and having her teeth cleaned. She agreed to do everything and was even excited while waiting for her turn. However, when we entered the clinic, they treated her like an adult and asked her to sit on the chair without even talking to her. Plus someone’s teeth are being filled/cleaned on the other side so she can hear the scary sound of the machine. In short, she forgot everything I told her and all her fears came back. To make matters worse, The Husband was asked to leave the room because only one companion was allowed. They also didn’t explain to us what they were gonna do although I told them too many times that it’s Sandy’s first time. So I just went through the motions and waited for them to finish looking at Sandy’s teeth. They said Sandy’s teeth look good but that she has four cavities on her molars and that I should consider having it filled. Maybe I will, but I will definitely go to another dentist/clinic.
Sunday was the MBAPs birthday bash as Jody’s lovely house in Filinvest.
Sharing some photos of Sandy before we leave for the party
It was fun and I still can’t believe that the mommies got to chat for hours while the daddies drank beer and played poker (The Husband won).
Thanks to Margaux and Bianca’s playroom, there were minimum tantrums. Even I started to miss Sandy after being separated from her for two hours. I did check on her but saw that she was so busy playing so I let her be.
We all got excited when Jody served Alex Franco’s cake (thanks again girl!) but what was even more exciting was the distribution of our Coach bags! It should’ve been caught on video but everyone was just so busy gushing and reducing the prices of the bags to 50% off so their husbands will understand why we can’t resist shopping online. Can you imagine having a $25 Coach tote? We also planned our Christmas party and had a draw for the colors of the outfit of each family. There were lots of juicy stories too. Sorry Abie, you’ll just have to be updated via email
. That’s about it. Happy Birthday again to the MBAPs June celebrants.
TV Guidelines for your Toddlers
Unless you consider not watching TV when it’s night time, TV guidelines don’t really exist in our house. Sandy knows when to stop watching anyway and most of the time, she just likes it turned on as she likes having the sounds from her favorite shows in the background while she plays or draws. (definitely a No-No according to tip #3)
If you want some guidelines though, check out this list from Baby Center:
Two hours a day of TV watching should be enough. More than that may cause his brain to go autopilot. You can also choose do a few ten to 15-minute breaks just to prevent this.
Don’t tell your child that you have a TV time guideline. Let him or her tell you when he wants to watch. If it’s still under the maximum time, then let him enjoy his favorite shows.
Make the TV set unavailable.
Too often, television is a backdrop to family life: It blares away in the den or great room while the kids are playing, Mom’s cooking, or the family is eating. Consider putting the TV in a small, out-of-the-way room in the house (on the second floor, if you have one). Another way to keep the TV from being front and center: Keep it in a cabinet that remains closed when the TV is off.
Having said all that, especially to those who work from home like me, I don’t think strict TV guidelines is needed as long as we keep our kids talking and having fun while they’re watching. I always ask Sandy what the characters are doing and even make up small problems so she can think of a solution. She loves the word “brainstorn” (brainstorm) by the way and would always ask my help whenever she needs to come up with an idea.
Boots?
I stumbled upon this site selling Dansko womens shoes three hours ago and yet I’m still browsing up to now. I really want to get a pair of boots although I have no idea where I can wear it. I used to own a pair of knee-high ten years ago and was surprised to see that it’s still the same style that is being sold on most stores. Too bad I lost them when I moved houses! Now I want to have a pair more than ever.
If only we have winter her too, I could wear all the wraps, trench coats and boots that are so popular in Gossip Girl.
Kitchen Tiles
I saw an episode on a nice home makeover last night. They used reds on the glass tile and walls, giving the kitchen an entirely new look.
I’ve been hoping to do something similar but after some thought, I realized re-doing the tiles doesn’t only sound hard but might be expensive as well. For now I’ll just have to settle in re-painting the kitchen cabinets and walls just like what they did on the show.
Wordless Wednesday – Rosella
I was browsing through old photos looking for something that I can use this Wednesday. I saw these:
She was in the hospital when she got this gorgeous doll.
The Great Outdoors
Hanging out at parenting forums again before I start working. For today’s find – rv parks and camping. I’ve always wanted to go camping but I don’t know if there are even camping grounds near Manila. I am so envious of their photos and most of the kids look like they’re having the time of their lives. It’s been my long time dream to sleep with nature. To have crickets as the last sound that I will hear before I close my eyes. I’ve never seen a real sunrise although not for the lack of trying. Whenever we go to the beach, The Husband and I set out alarm clocks so we’d wake up at 5AM but we never do.
Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince
We watched Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince last Sunday at Greenbelt 3, Makati. I made reservations online but we were running late that I had to climb three steps at a time just to claim our tickets. Luckily, they weren’t that strict so we still got our seats.
The movie was too long, too boring and too many scenes that you don’t really need. However, it’s exactly the same as its book counterpart, which in my opinion, you don’t really need to read except for two important facts:
1. Dumbledore dying, thanks to Professor Snape’s unbreakable vow with Malfoy’s mom.
2. The dark power of Horcrux and how the young Voldemort learned about it.
These two scenes, unlike the others who were obviously just fillers are very important for book 7 which I can’t wait to see and read again. Sandy, The Husband and our friend Z got really bored watching the movie and thought that Harry is getting weaker. Well, better wait for The Deathly Hallows then to see how powerful Harry can be. We are all just dying to see them fight back that I can’t help but feel sad that Sirius is dead. He would’ve been great in book 7. Think about the final scenes from Order of the Phoenix to know what I mean.
Sandy: The movie was boring! Night at the museum is better and more fun!
And that’s coming from someone who couldn’t wait to see Harry on the big screen again.
