Too Expensive For Kids

It seems every little boy I know has a psp these days. Kids are so lucky they can have toys that are as expensive as my previous mobile phone! I was close to buying Sandy her own psp too when I saw how she enjoys playing with her uncle’s. But then I realize at the last minute that it’s too pricey for a kid her age. She was only four at the time, after all. Also, whenever the Husband wants something for the same price, we discuss and compute our budget before we decide if we’ll even buy it. But when it comes to Sandy, all reasoning goes out of the window. Luckily, I was able to restrain myself. And I know I did the right thing after reading this article on how we should help the kids to maximize their creativity by giving them toys where they can pretend, build and think.

Career in Video Production

A client of mine needs to have a short commercial done but I have zero idea on the actual cost and the design process of making one. So I searched the net for video production companies until I stumbled upon Go2Productions.com. For a few minutes, I forgotten why I was at their web site. I just got distracted by their amazing portfolio and found myself clicking each and every sample clips. No matter how many of them I’ve seen, the next one always seem to be better than the last.

To give you a background, Go2Productions.com is one of those tv production companies that creates corporate videos, web videos, TV commercials, music videos, voice overs and virtual set designs. But according to their site, they are different in such a way that they have their own team of directors, script writers, cinematographers, 2d/3d motion graphics artists, compositors, audio/visual effects in one location.

Jobs Everywhere

Everywhere I look online, I see banking and finance jobs. New graduates are so lucky now that online job sites are available. Before, (and I will not say how many years ago to protect my age) we used to walk from one office to another just so we can drop our resumes. Not all companies have Internet access, let alone email addresses so sending in your resume is out of the question.

With that said, here’s a strip from Dilbert Cartoons. Click to view the larger version.

The Internet – The Source of All Things and Online Universities

The Internet, the Web, or whatever you so desire to call it, has billions of articles and pieces of information. Most everything that you desire to know or search for can be found on this great tool called the world wide web. And, all this wealth is accessible to you sitting in your arm chair at home.

Not the newest invention, but a tool that has enabled countless people to get a higher education is the online university. If we wanted to learn something, we used to go to the library and check out a book. If we wanted to study something, we went to a university or community college and took some classes.

Gadget Warranty

I didn’t know you could buy ipad warranty now. Technology warranty applies to other gadgets as well such as laptops, iPhones and other mobile phones. I love how they offer full replacement cost of the device if it gets stolen or damaged.

Now that’s something to consider when buying electronics and gadgets. If I’ve known about this three years ago, I would’ve saved most of my old / broken stuff and possible a lot of money since I didn’t have to replace them anymore.

P Series

image I want a Sony VAIO P series in pink. Why? Because my DELL Studio 17 is just too big for my lap. I’d rather not bring it to travels/out of town trips if I can help it. Not only it takes up so much space, but all my most important files and projects are stored there. As much as possible, I try not to turn it on unless I need to do something that I can’t do on my iPhone.

Anyway, maybe the P series will be overdoing it especially now that I’m trying to save all my sideline earnings for Sandy’s birthday. Still, I love how small and chic it looks. I’m thinking it will be better than iPad for the fact that you can install more web design applications.

My Sun

Just love how strong our Sun signal here at home! No need for a cell phone signal booster for me. Now I can call my mom and The Husband wherever I am, even in bed. Good bye to getting signals from the terrace. I’m sure Sandy will love this as she likes calling her Papa all the time. Having two cell phones isn’t such a waste, after all!

Everyone Should Have Access to Top Quality Education

Thanks to technology, plenty of people can now acquire degrees through an online university. There are plenty of options out there but the one that stands out for me is Western Governors University. For one, they are non-profit so they don’t need to benefit shareholders. By trying to keep their operating costs low, they can afford to offer basic tuition fees at a flat rate every six months. It’s cheaper because you don’t pay for credit hours. A quick glance at their table comparison of reputable and accredited online universities (see here)will show you that WGU tuition is indeed, half the cost. For people like me who has to raise a family while pursuing higher education, cost is definitely a big factor. Read more

My New 5800

image I’m done shopping for cell phones. I found what I want with my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. It has wi-fi, huge screen for browsing, 3.15MP camera, video recording and editing, Microsoft Office, MP4 player (a must for me), an FM radio, front camera and qwerty keyboard among other things.

It’s just unfortunate that I bought it when my morning sickness is at its worst. So instead of tinkering with the applications to maximize my phone, I rarely use it except for browsing and twittering. Still good though. It was my main requirement anyway. To be able to browse wherever I am without squinting and be able to type long emails with the help of a QWERTY keyboard. I just hope that by December, I’ll finally get the chance to install at least an eBook reader.

Learn Via Web

More and more people are now pursuing higher education online. Just this morning, I came across a site that offers medical coding training courses over the Internet. I was a bit skeptical at first but when two of my friends decided to get their masteral degree through an online university, I can’t help but be impressed. Technology has come a long way that you can now get a degree or masteral without leaving your home or giving up work. This also gives me hope that if ever I find enough time, I may get a masteral on Creative Arts as well.
