Shouts and Giggles
Sandy has always been a chatterbox. She loves talking and singing at the top of her lungs. That alone could make her parents long for natural migraine headache relief but as if that’s not enough, Meg has now learned the use of her voice too. Just like her Ate, she now shouts to call our attention.
She’s not angry but she just loves hearing her voice as she says — oooh, aweeerrrrhh, arrhhh and goooogligooooey. It’s funny, most of the time. The humor factor also depends on the time of day and the number of work that I have.
Scrapbooks for Professionals
During your professional career, you may move through multiple posts and through multiple companies. With every career move that a person makes in her professional life, he or she ends up losing friends. With every forward or back ward move, she leaves hundreds of friends behind.
These are the friends who were your lunch mates or people who kept you company after office for drinks. They might be your employees or your boss. They might be the guys or ladies who you met around the office and shared a meal with, or they might be colleagues that befriended you during a water cooler moment. They also might be the people who you met during your pre-career stage in conferences or GMAT course classes.
Thank God It’s Friday
I’ve been back to work since Thursday. I know they (boss and coworkers) are all busy but I’m happy that they didn’t automatically turn the projects over to me. For two days, I was taking it easy and just working on some minor design stuff. Luckily, it’s a Friday so just in case they are just warming up in bombarding me with design requests, I still have the weekend to get ready.
Just thinking about working again while trying to take care of a newborn is stressing me out. I really hope I can be a supermom and manage my time well. With Meg having gas so she couldn’t sleep straight and Sandy wanting attention at the same time, not mentioning the sleepless nights for the past two weeks, I believe I’m about to pass out. And so’s The Husband, I’m sure.
Working Mom
I have no clue about motorhome repairs and yet my client insists that I’ll do a better job in researching than him. I sincerely doubt that now that I have a newborn who breast feeds every hour and a half. I just can’t seem to focus anymore whether it’s a research or editing job, let alone a full blown web site design project.
It’s just like what the character of the book Yummy Mummy said, she just can’t see herself working in PR again now that she’s surrounded with nappies, baby toys, spilled baby food and the A-Zs of baby diseases. And that’s coming from someone who has a one year maternity leave. Anyway, I still like to work but if I had to choose between working, eating or sleeping, I’d always choose a solid 2-hour nap.
To-Do’s
Oh my, I am so swamped with work! Here’s a list of what I need to do just this morning.
1. Find a cheap postcard printing. We need to print 2000 pcs to promote our new web development package to Dentists and Orthodontists.
2. Send updated marketing materials – letterhead, mailing labels and businesscard to my client before lunch.
3. Add four new pages to an old project that I’ve been working on for months. It was supposed to go live but the client was very fickle-minded.
4. Do a training on CMS – should take an hour. Well good luck to me. I am positively sure that I can only do item number 1 because Meg wakes up as soon as her head hits the bed.
Thanks
There’s a sale on Davidoff cigars online. I wonder if I should buy a few for my client who’s about to leave for the US this month? It will serve as thank you gift for all the projects he’s given me and for buying my iPhone for me. This client of mine has been with me for seven years and he’s one of the many clients who made me think that I can actually make a living through freelancing. Too bad I wasn’t able to meet with him because I just gave birth. He was kind enough to meet with my husband though so he can give him the iPhone that I purchased online. He was even asking when I will have my daughter’s baptism because he wanted to be a part of it. We don’t have plans yet but he’s probably gone back to the US by the time we start with the preparations.
Lost Bid
I was trying to bid for a design project for industrial supplies last week. The owner was about to choose me except I couldn’t produce any portfolio that is in the same industry. It was too bad because the project was very simply yet he’s willing to pay more because of the time constraints. In short, I didn’t get the project. However, as I was browsing through my old portfolio this morning, I saw not one but two industrial related websites that I designed two years ago. It was still good, considering the age but I guess the project isn’t for me which is why I forgot about the two sites. Maybe it’s also His way of telling me to slow down and rest because who knows how much rest I will get when the baby is here.
New Line of Work
My client wants me to be more involved in the business side of our company. I wasn’t sure about this and when he told me to study business credit reports, I just knew it wasn’t for me. My first love will always be design and anything that has to do with the arts. Even though I’m leaning towards managing designers now, I still get to dabble in design projects, further enhancing my skills. I know I should broaden my horizon and all that but sometimes, there are things that you just know. It will not work for me the same way as marketing and programming will make me want to tear my hair out.
Still Wishing for My Own Work Area
I wish I have unlimited funds so I can buy not just all the baby stuff that I see online but all the office furniture that I need. I’m lucky to have found a very nice looking desk from SM and to inherit a more comfortable chair from my MIL’s office. Still, I would be happy to get a new printer, an on-screen pen tablet, a scanner and a new all-in-one desktop from Dell. While I’m at it, a new office area would be nice too. Just look at this wonderful and spacious office that I grabbed from HGTV.com’s website. The shelves are too die for and that day bed is comfortable enough without making you feel too lazy to work. Plus I could see my two girls playing on that huge space behind the chair so I can still see them from time to time.
Beautiful World
You’ve always been interested in making people look beautiful. Your hands itch to pluck anyone’s eyebrows whenever they are in danger of sprouting in the wrong place. Just a quick glance on someone else’s bad skin or hair and you’re already listing the procedures you want to suggest to improve it. All of these are signs that you are destined to have a career in beauty. There’s a cosmetology school in Illinois called Regency Beauty Institute that helps dreamers such as yours. One of their approach is to provide training to students by letting them give discounted salon services to the public under expert supervision. What better way to experience the real thing than hands-on?
Aside from this, as soon as you graduate, Regency helps you acquire your first job with their network of campuses and placement relationships which includes salons, cruise ships and runways. If you think you have the talent, Regency is the first place to start. After all, their graduates are recognized and sought after all throughout the United States.
